Lakehead Regional Green Spaces Guide

The rugged natural landscape of Northwestern Ontario has been shaped by the dramatic interaction of fire and ice. Within the seemingly endless expanse of rocks and trees lie the clues to understanding how the region has been transformed from prehistory to the present. In addition to providing a comprehensive listing of green spaces for relaxation and outdoor recreation, the guide offers a brief introduction to the geology, biology and human history of the region.

The Lakehead Regional Green Spaces Guide identifies and briefly describes more than eighty green spaces located within easy travelling distance of Thunder Bay. Some of the many parks and conservation areas have been established to preserve unique geological features, while other were designated to protect the flora and fauna of the region. We encourage you to experience and explore these green spaces and to consult some of the additional sources identified in the text for more information that will further enrich your visit.
